In 1978, the FSM was invited by the ‘Swallows of India’ through the good offices of Rev. Fr. Alex Tuscano, ofm, for a term of three years. In 1962 this project began to work for the slum dwellers in various fields: education of children, adults, medical care, craft centre, faith formation and also day care centre for the little children. Having no domicile nearby, the sisters, Mary of the Child Jesus, Anna Maria and Virginie pitched a tent near Stella Maris College. All the schemes where the sisters worked were sponsored and they gave themselves whole-heartedly to their mission.

Fr. K. P Joseph put up a building at the disposal of the sisters for their use and they were given full charge of the Kindergarten and also the Good Samaritan school. The convent building was erected on December 31, 1992 and blessed by the then Archbishop Casmir Gnanadicam on December 28, 1993. There was a small celebration with priests and sisters along with the FSM from the whole province.

Life at Vimala Nilaya continues with more and more children knocking at their door. The sisters endeavour to witness the charism of St. Francis and our Foundress to the children, parents and all those they encounter by sharing God’s life of love and compassion.
